Hello Lissie,

I also like your break down of cost as this is often the most important fact of travel. Australia is so often underestimated by visitors. They totally misjudge the distances and miss out on a lot of sightseeing as a result.

Hi There,
I am also reasearching a trip around Oz in a few years or so travelling with my wife and 3 boys ages 5,7 and 9. I plan to take 4-6 months off and am open to when and where to travel. Any suggestions would be greatful. I am a born bred aussie so I am used to the heat. I was thinking of leaving Sydney early spring traveling ant clockwise up to Carins, Mt Isa, Katherine, Broome, Perth then head to Tassie and finally back to Sydney.
Any and all suggestions would be great, I'll be in a 4WD and 4WD camper tralier.
Cheers

In February and given that from Ireland you have no real experience with the heat :) I'd suggest you stay away from the north and the interior. The coast south of Cairns, Victoria, South Australia - but not the north of the state Tassie would be nice too but probably too much like home. By April its perfect weather for the desert e.g. Broken Hill, Coober Pedy, Alice Springs - so start coastal and work your way inland - dont try to see it all - 3 months isnt very long!
